Getting Started for Faculty

Dear UAA eLearning Faculty,

The staff at UAA eLearning: Distance Learning Services (formerly Distance Education Services) would like to welcome you to the Fall 2014 semester.As always, we are eager to work side by side with you and your course(s) to ensure a smooth and inviting experience for all eLearning students.

We would also like to provide you with a friendly reminder to activate your Blackboard Course for students no later than the start of the Fall semester (8/25/14).If you have any problems or need assistance with this process, please call the IT Services Call Center where a technician can assist you (907-786-4646 Opt 1).The Call Center hours of operation are M-F, 6am until midnight and weekends and holidays, 8am until 5pm.

Over the summer we have incorporated a few new features to the eLearning program including the deployment of the Blackboard (Bb) Student Orientation Course shell.Soon after a student has registered for an eLearning supported course they will be given access to this orientation course shell.The purpose of this course is to provide students with a learning environment so that they may familiarize themselves with Bb and its features before the start of the semester.Some of those features include access to Discussion Boards, Practice Exams, and Collaborate Sessions.For further information on this course, please feel free to contact our office at

Also new to the Fall semester, the eLearning program will be utilizing a monthly eNewsletter specifically focused towards UAA eLearning students.Any faculty and/or departments that wish to have information published in this newsletter are encouraged to send detailed information to where the contents will be added to the next monthly issue.

For faculty utilizing our test proctor services, please note that the normal hours of operation for the UAA eLearning testing center have changed to M, W, Th, & F from 8:30am until 4:30pm.Extended hours testing (4:30pm-7:30pm) on Wednesdays and Thursdays will still be offered according to staff availability.Please visit the Testing Center Calendar, located on our website for up to date testing availability.

As always, it is critical for all students to have reliable access to their UAA email account and to their Bb account.
