Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) is known to be present and/or was formerly present in many of UAA buildings built prior to 1979. While friable (uncontained with the potential to become airborne) ACM was removed from buildings immediately, non-friable (contained with low potential to become airborne unless disturbed) ACM remains in place until construction, remodel, or demolition projects necessitate its removal. Removal of ACM is accomplished by AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) trained contractors. At this time, no UAA employees are authorized to work with ACM within the course and scope of their employment. The following links provide information for all UAA employees that may need to work in close proximity to ACM.
