Denise Runge, Ph.D., Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs
Denise Runge, Ph.D., is UAA provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, having served in the role since June 2020. As chief academic officer, Runge oversees all instruction and academic programs, faculty support, academic student support and academic partnerships for all UAA campuses. She collaborates closely with the vice chancellor for Research in support of the university’s research mission and with the vice chancellor for Student Affairs in support of enrollment management.
Prior to her appointment as provost, Runge served as the dean of the UAA Community and Technical College for four years. In that role, she also served on the university’s Student Success Advisory Committee, and on the Accreditation Steering Committee.
Previous academic administrative roles Runge has held include assistant director of UAA Prince William Sound College campus, chief academic officer of Helena College in Montana, provost and vice president of academics for Oglethorpe University in Georgia dean of the College of Arts & Letters (CAL) and associate dean for the CAL, for the University of Southern Mississippi.
Runge holds a Ph.D. in political science: public policy and analysis from the University of Alabama and previously served in full-time faculty roles at USM and DeKalb College in Georgia since 1994.
