The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) promotes excellence in teaching, service, community engagement, creative activity, and research in an atmosphere of collegiality.The Center is designed to support faculty at the University of Alaska Anchorage, including its Community Campuses, in order to showcase and promote innovations in teaching and research and advance a community of scholars.CAFE offers a wide spectrum of workshops, forums and assistance to faculty in teaching excellence, research, assessment, civic engagement, classroom success; student retention, and special support for new and adjunct faculty.It also sponsors "town square" events which share UAA faculty expertise with the broader Anchorage and Alaskan communities; offers information and referrals about grant opportunities and awards; a library of materials of interest to faculty; a small lounge; temporary work space for faculty; a computer laboratory for improving skills in distance technology and more.

Laboratories and Facilities
The Applied Science and Engineering Technology Laboratory (ASET) lab is an advanced analytical laboratory equipped with GC-FID, GC-MS, ICP-MS and LC MS/MS instruments. The instruments are used for quantitative analysis from low level persistent organic pollutions (POPs), drugs, natural organic compounds, trace metals, and anions in diverse matrices ranging from water, soils, and plants to animal tissues. It is a leading laboratory in the state for fatty acid analysis in marine mammals, birds, and human plasma. The laboratory is utilized for research in biology, geology, engineering and ecology; is the teaching laboratory for an instrumental chemistry class; and is used for several outreach activities.
The Stable Isotope Lab (ENRI-SILS) is a state-of-the-art analytical facility that quantifies stable isotope concentration (e.g. δD, δ13C, δ15N, and δ18O) to help researchers understand biological, hydrologic, geological, and atmospheric processes on short and long time scales. Analyses of liquids, gases, and organismal tissues are routinely carried out at the laboratory.
