UHDCS Student Staff Descriptions

  • Commons Attendants (CA): CAs day-to-day and evening operation of the Gorsuch Commons including package pick-up, after-hours assistance, and answering questions for residents and guests.
  • Dining Staff: Dining Services offers a variety of positions at different campus venues (cashier, fry cook, busser, barista, etc.). 
  • Mail Sorter: Mail Sorters are responsible for the daily delivery of residents' mail through UHDCS, Monday through Saturday. 
  • Maintenance Staff: Maintenance Staff assist the Maintenance Services Coordinator and related employees with the repair, renovation, and general maintenance of the residential community. Completes student generated work orders, conducts routine inspections of housing conditions, and provides preventative maintenance.

Residence Life Student Staff Descriptions

Our student leaders are paraprofessionals who offer support and guidance within the residential communities. They are selected for their ability to have a positive impact on group living. The staff undergo  an extensive training program focused on leadership, peer counseling, academic support, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, activity facilitation, and community development.

  • Peer Mentors (PM): PMs provide personal and academic support for students through study groups, academic programs, and other outreach programs. Assist with Creating Success in College courses (Guidance 150) taught in our Smart classroom in the residential community. Assist with Welcome Weeks (fall and spring) and create information bulletin boards.
  • Programming Assistants (PA): PAs  provide support for students through  participation in collateral meetings with campus partners, and planning and implementation of programs in the areas of multicultural/identity-based themes, alcohol/drug education, and late night social programming. Assist with Welcome Weeks (fall and spring) and create information bulletin boards.
  • Resident Advisors (RA): RAs offer support and guidance within the residential communities. They are selected for their ability to have a positive impact on group living. RAs serve as a referral contact for students in need of personal or academic assistance. They also confront residents when their behavior extends outside community guidelines. RAs help with Welcome Weeks (fall and spring) and create information bulletin boards. Resident Advisors are eager to address your individual questions and concerns and to help in anyway they can.
  • Desk Assistants (DA): DAs monitor the safety and security of each hall through the front desk evenings, late nights, and early mornings before business hours. DAs also serve as a resource to students and staff by providing equipment checkouts, residential lounge reservations, etc.
  • Office Assistants (OA): OAs provide administrative support and customer service within the Department of Residence Life main office, located in MAC 6-103, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.  OAs serve as a resource for Residence Life student and professional staff members, assist with Welcome Weeks (fall and spring), and assist with On-Campus Living marketing and publicity.

 

 

The Department of Residence Life (DRL) is comprised of student and professional staff dedicated to supporting student success, enriching the campus community, and providing fund an safe activities for students.  DRL employs 8 professional staff members and coordinates with a Student Success Counselor available through the Dean of Students office. Our program provides leadership training, experiential learning, awareness of diverse lifestyles and cultures, co-curricular programs and activities (educational and social), and behavioral accountability. Residence Life's student development approach focuses on enriching each student's higher education experiences by delivering high quality, student-centered programs and services.
