ISER presents Resource Problems in Australia
by Kathleen McCoy |
John Tisdell, Associate Professor in Resource and Environmental Economics of Griffith
University will present Resolving Natural Resource Problems in Australia Using Market
Based Instruments on March 30 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the ISER Conference Room on the
fifth floor of the Diplomacy Building. As always ISER presentations are free and open
to the public.
Australia faces complex natural resource problems that include soil erosion and declining
water quality, biodiversity and salinity. Traditional command and control solutions,
for example, fixed regulatory standards such as upper limits on emissions, are often
seen as ineffective and costly. Instead, the Australian government is now funding
a series of pilot programs to explore and implement market based instruments such
as using tradable emissions permits to reduce air pollution or improve water quality.
