The Anthropology Club welcomes Professor Debra L. Martin to the UAA campus today, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. Dr. Martin is Chair of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the title of her talk is "Ripped Flesh and Torn Souls: Bioarchaeological Signatures of Forced Captivity in Ancient Populations."

Professor Martin will speak on new bioarchaeological evidence indicating that pre-state societies in the American Southwest practiced a wide range of abduction and slaving practices. Dr. Martin will argue that endemic warfare, raiding, abduction and slavery far predated European contact in the region.

This lecture is free and open to the public. The Anthropology Club will provide complimentary snacks and soda. Parking is free on campus on Fridays.
