Spring 2010: UAA women's basketball team headed to Division II NCAA tournament berth

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The UAA women's basketball team punched its ticket for its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth Sunday when it was awarded an at-large bid to play in the Division II West Regional Championships.

The two-time defending West Region champion Seawolves (23-4) will be the No. 4 seed and face No. 5 seed Cal Poly Pomona (22-6) in the first round Friday in Seattle. The UAA-Pomona winner will get the survivor of the 1-vs.-8 matchup between host Seattle Pacific and first-time NCAA qualifier Hawaii Pacific.

UAA finished third place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while Pomona was the California Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season runner-up. The other side of the bracket is comprised of No. 2 seed UC San Diego against No. 7 Humboldt State in a game pitting the CCAA's regular-season and tournament champions, plus No. 3 seed Western Washington against No. 6 seed Chico State.
This marks the third straight year the West Regional will be hosted by the Falcons.
