International Studies student Cortney Corbet and English major Sean Talbot earn competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Benjamin A. Gilman International ScholarshipInternational Studies major Cortney Corbet was recently awarded a Fall 2011 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia. This year's application cycle was highly competitive, with over 2,500 applications for 960 awards.

Sean Talbot, an English major with a Journalism and Public Communications minor, also was awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Sean will be studying Spanish language and Costa Rican culture at the Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica fall semester of 2011.

The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
