Fall 2023 Chancellor's Report on Philanthropy

Fall 2023

Hello, Seawolves!

Your generosity has been the cornerstone of our achievements and has propelled us to new heights in our pursuit of excellence in higher education and community engagement.

I’m honored to have hosted distinguished visitors recently including the U.S. Surgeon General, SBA Administrator, senior department diplomats  and New York Times columnist David Brooks. Their visits elevated our institution's visibility and provided invaluable insights that will undoubtedly shape our future endeavors.

Our engagement efforts have been inspiring, from UAA Day at the Fair, showcasing our vibrant campus community, to the Anchorage School District (ASD) New Educator's Academy, where we welcomed and supported 400 new ASD educators and staff members.

As we embark on another academic year, I am excited to celebrate significant milestones, including the 50th anniversary of the UAA/APU Consortium Library and the remarkable 50 years of success of the College of Business and Public Policy. Our upcoming events, such as the celebration with Poet Jane Hirshfield and the Sitka Music Festival, promise moments of joy and reflection on our journey this academic year.

The Peak Trust and Horesji Family visit speaks volumes about the impact a committed community of supporters can achieve. The Peak Trust is outfitting the new First National Bank Alaska Finance Lab with furniture and technology.

Furthermore, I am thrilled to share the news of the Avis Alaska Sports Complex (AASC) sponsorship, a remarkable commitment of $1 million over 10 years. This sponsorship underscores the long-term confidence our business community has in UAA.

In conclusion, please accept my gratitude for your steadfast dedication to UAA. Your generosity continues to shape the lives of our students, faculty and the broader community in immeasurable ways.

Together, we are building a brighter future and making a lasting impact.

Sincerely,

Chancellor Parnell
