Are you interested in undergraduate research? At UAA, there are a number of professors working on research projects with an emphasis in sustainability. These professors are excited to work with undergraduate students that are eager to work on research projects! Collaborative Projects

Environment and Natural Resources Institute (ENRI)

The institute has several ongoing projects covering three research themes: Ecosystem Studies and Conservation Biology (ESCB), Earth and Climate Processes ECB), and Human Ecology and Native Studies (HENS).

 

Renewable Energy Research at UAA

The UAA School of Engineering has a number of active research programs in the area of renewable energy.  The areas of focus are hydrokinetic energy, hydropower, and wind power.  

 

Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER)

ISER conducts non-partisan research that helps people understand social and economic systems and supports informed public and private decision making. Current sustainability research at ISER includes investigations of Climate Change, Health Care, Energy and Utilities, Fisheries, and Land and Wildlife Studies.

 

Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS)

OURS supports academic excellence by providing funding for undergraduate research projects. Students can apply for funding with a faculty mentor or for an independent project. Past sustainability related projects have investigated the carrying capacity of moose populations, a Carbon Baseline Study for the Municipality of Anchorage, and the geochemical impacts of abandoned gold mines.

 

Resilience and Adaptive Management Group (RAM Group)

The RAM group is a multidisciplinary and multicultural research team that investigates a variety of resilience matters in Alaska. Current research includes an investigation of environmental knowledge of Alaskan elders. Other work focuses on agent based modeling and Resilience mapping of social ecological systems.
