Admission Deadlines

All application materials are due by March 1st for Fall admission, and by November 1st for Spring admission. Files received after will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please be sure to carefully read through the following sources of graduate admissions information.

Additional informational can be found in the UAA Biological Sciences Handbook

Required Admission Documents

This is an overview of the required documents for admission into the Master of Science, Biological Sciences graduate program.  Please review the UAA Catalog's Admission Requirements for complete instructions.

Submit to UAA Office of Admissions

The following items must be submitted directly to the UAA Office of Admissions:

  • Official Transcripts
Official transcript(s) reflecting graduate-level credits and credits pertaining to the baccalaureate degree from each institution attended. Applicants with transcript(s) from institution(s) outside the United States or Canada must provide an official statement of equivalency from a recommended credentials evaluation service and, if necessary, an English translation of the transcript.
  • TOEFL Scores (If necessary)
If necessary, scores from the TOEFL exam must be requested by the student and sent directly by the testing agency to the university. Scores must be received prior to admission to the program

For more information on how to submit these necessary items to Admissions, please visit the UAA Office of Admissions webpage.

Submit to the Department of Biological Sciences

The following items must be submitted directly to the Department of Biological Sciences:

  • Statement of Goals
A brief (typically one page) statement of the applicant's research and career goals. We highly recommend that applicants to our Master's program include the name of their faculty mentor in their application's statement of goals. This will ensure a smoother process.
  • Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation from the persons who are qualified to evaluate the applicant's ability to successfully perform graduate-level coursework and research should be submitted directly to the department
  • Letter of Faculty Support
A letter of support from a UAA faculty member from the Department of Biological Sciences expressing willingness to accept the applicant into his/her research group and a statement of available funding or funding opportunities for research support for the student.

Documents may be emailed to the Math and Natural Sciences (MNS) Hub  or uploaded through your electronic application.

Suggestions

  • Students seeking admission to the M.S. program are strongly advised to contact faculty members whose research interests are of interest to the applicant; admission to the program cannot be completed without a faculty mentor willing to accept the student into his or her research program. Faculty interests are located on their profiles pages.
