Gateway 2: Admission to Teacher Internship

Gateway 2: Admission to Teacher Internship is a significant turning point in your professional preparation as a future teacher. The student teaching internship required for licensure is a summative opportunity to apply and reflect on your development as a licensed educational professional. Once the SOE Student Success Office notifies you, use the following checklist to help you complete this process. Sections below the checklist provide additional information about each requirement.

The SOE Student Success Office will review your application and contact you about missing requirements or instruct you when to proceed with submitting your DEED Student Teaching Authorization and submitting an Application for Internship Placement.

Required Coursework, Assignments, & GPA

The BAEC program provides an integrative capeston experience to help teacher candidates develop a framework for professional educational practice. EDFN A300 must be completed with a grade of C or better. Students complete an Action Research Project in EDEC A407 and Case Study Analysis in EDEC A408. These assignments align with other key assessments completed during program preparation, demonstrating growth in professional development. To advance to teacher candidacy, students must pass both assignments with a grade of B or better. In addition to passing specific assignments and courses with a minimum grade, all students applying to teacher candidacy must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and pass the DEED Content Area Exam requirement.

Gateway 2 Application

Submit the Gateway 2 Application to verify your completion of academic requirements and update your professional experience details, including when you took the Content Area Praxis Exams.

Other Applications

In addition to the UAA SOE Gateway 2 Application, teacher candidates must submit state, university, and school district applications (if applicable). The DEED Student Teaching Authorization includes fingerprinting and a background check. The SOE Student Success Office will help you prepare this form, including a program verification form to be completed by the Dean's Office. Once your DEED Authorization has been mailed, you will submit the Internship Placement Application. Depending on your internship location, you may also be required to submit an application directly to the school district. The SOE Student Success Office will advise you if this is necessary.
