Emergency Broadband Benefit applications now open

The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms and so much more.

2021 Rolling Travel Awards

The Alaska NSF EPSCoR Fire & Ice project announces the availability of funding to enable UA faculty, staff and students to present their research, to interact with colleagues and mentors, and/or to obtain training. Grants may be used for travel to, or remote attendance at, conferences, workshops, trainings, or other appropriate academic settings. Awards are for up to $3,500 and cover domestic travel only (remote participation in international events is allowed). Application deadline is rolling through August 31, 2021 and travel or participation must be completed by September 30, 2021.

UAA Disability Support Services is proud to announce two new software programs available for all learners. Read&Write is a big confidence booster for anyone who needs a little support with their reading and writing, at school or in the workplace. EquatIO software allows learners to create mathematical equations, formulas (and more!) directly on their computer or device.

Disability Support Services (DSS) coordinates support services for students who experience disabilities. We also provide support services for the university and the community at large. This brief DSS introductory video, created by UAA graduate Katherine Irwin and the DSS Team, offers insight into what constitutes a disability. The answers may surprise you: an individual can be born with a disability — a disability can also be the result of an illness, accident or even pregnancy.

Student Union reservations update

The University of Alaska Anchorage has stated that in-person events are not permissible indoors, with exceptions for small indoor meetings with social distancing for employees authorized to be on campus. As the university continues to monitor and evaluate event options for the future, the Student Union will begin to allow student organizations, departments and exterior clients the opportunity to “hold” reservations for Fall 2021.

This fall, UAA will be offering a new post-baccalaureate certificate in pre-medical studies to help those students who already have a baccalaureate degree prepare themselves for medical school and complete their pre-requisite coursework.
