Student Commencement Speaker and Leadership Honors applications available

Applications are now available for Spring 2021 Commencement and Leadership Honors. All applicants must be graduating in Spring 2021 and the deadline to apply is Friday, March 5 at 11:59 p.m.

Alaska expands Tier 2 vaccination group, opens eligibility

Earlier today Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) announced it would open vaccine eligibility for Phase 1b Tier 2 beginning tomorrow at noon. This tier includes Alaskans age 50 and older who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19 due to existing medical conditions and frontline essential workers. Phase 2 also opens up the availability of the vaccine to pre-K, K-12, child care education staff and people living and working in some congregate settings. This will not affect eligibility for most UAA employees and students but may open up eligibility for some.

Seawolf Student Leader, Seawolf Community Service and Mabil Duir Leadership Scholarship applications available

Applications are now available for Seawolf Student Leader, Seawolf Community Service and Mabil Duir Leadership Scholarship. Recipients receive a tuition credit for the following semester. Applications are due Friday, March 5 by 11:59 pm.

Register for February's Zoom training

Monthly live Zoom training, presented by OIT Video Conferencing Services staff, will start Feb. 9 and continue throughout the year. Offerings include the “Zoom Basics Training” and an “Advanced/Ask Me Anything” section. The advanced training will cover breakout rooms, meeting security and any other topics you have questions about. Please register through the OIT training calendar in a time slot that fits your schedule.

CircleIn is now live at the University of Alaska Anchorage! The Office of Student Success would like to encourage you to use the CircleIn app to get organized, study remotely with classmates, share resources, ask and answer questions, create flashcards and quizzes, and help your peers. The more you use the platform, the more likely you are to earn rewards like gift cards to your favorite places! Flexible, part-time and remote! Hiring Student Engagement Ambassadors

If you love UAA and are interested in building your resume, please apply to be an Engagement Ambassador. This position is open to students that are enrolled for spring semester. You may also apply if you were enrolled in fall semester, are skipping spring semester and plan to enroll next fall. Engagement Ambassadors now work remotely to contact alumni and donors of UAA.

Six new board members join the University of Alaska Foundation

The University of Alaska Foundation has named six new members to its Board of Directors, each of whom was elected to serve a three-year term beginning in January 2021. The new directors include: Stephanie Erickson, Greater Prudhoe Area Manager, ConocoPhillips Alaska; Jason Gootee, Vice President, Strategic Market Development, Moda Partners, Inc.; Ella Goss, Chief Executive Officer, Providence Alaska Medical Center; Roald Helgesen, Chief Operating Officer, Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska; Brian Holst, Executive Director, Juneau Economic Development Council; and, Tim Thompson, External Affairs Manager, Alaska Airlines.

New reports highlight UA’s contribution to Alaskan economy and workforce

An in-depth analysis of nine major Alaska industries captures the impact that university programs have in preparing its students for jobs in Alaska’s workforce. The reports answer key questions related to the largest and fastest growing occupations that require some postsecondary education and highlights important employment indicators such as average wages earned, where UA grads work in Alaska, what industries they work in, and how they help boost the Alaska hire rate.
