"I continue to be proud of UAA’s contributions to support the municipality and state’s COVID-19 response. As the pandemic continues to evolve, I want to update you on two items for general awareness, as well as clarity surrounding our procedures," wrote Chancellor Sandeen in a message to the UAA community.

Update on Anchorage Emergency Order EO-16

Last Wednesday, Nov. 25, Acting Mayor Quinn-Davidson announced Emergency Order EO-16, which goes into effect tomorrow, Dec. 1, and continues through the end of December. The new emergency order stresses the necessity to limit outings and physical contact with those outside our households but also places specific restrictions on certain businesses and activities, mainly those that occur indoors and cannot accommodate face coverings and strict social distancing.

IT Services announcement about Adobe Flash

Starting on Dec. 31, 2020, Adobe will no longer distribute or update Adobe Flash Player, and web browsers (Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Opera, etc.) will no longer support the Adobe Flash Plugin. As a result, UAA computers will no longer be able to run any Flash-based websites or applications. Adobe Flash has long been a source of security vulnerabilities that allow attackers to install malware, execute commands, and takeover of computers when visiting malicious websites.

Chancellor decision on ’20-21 indoor winter sports season

"Today, it is with a heavy heart, I inform you I have made the decision UAA Athletics will not compete in any indoor winter sports during the 2020-21 season," wrote Chancellor Sandeen in a message to the UAA community. "This decision affects women’s and men’s basketball, men’s hockey, women’s gymnastics and women’s  and men’s indoor track. Because the Seawolf ski team, which includes both Nordic and Alpine student-athletes, is a non-contact sport that practices and competes outdoors, it will begin competition later this month. UAA has not yet announced decisions about GNAC spring ’21 competition for volleyball, cross country running and outdoor track and field."
