Test of on-campus emergency alerting system set for this Friday

A test of the on-campus emergency alerting system has been scheduled for Feb. 23, 2018, at 9 a.m. IT Services has implemented some software upgrades, and we will be activating all Cisco telephone speakerphones on the Anchorage, Eagle River, JBER and Bragaw sites. Note that this alert test will NOT activate your mobile phone, email, text or other methods.

UAA engineering professor Michele Yatchmeneff honored with NSF Career Award

The National Science Foundation recently awarded its Faculty Early Career Development Award to Dr. Michele Yatchmeneff, an ANSEP alumnus and mentor as well as an engineering professor at University of Alaska Anchorage. The $500,000 research grant, the third NSF grant in Yatchmeneff’s relatively young career, will advance a study on the importance of belonging in Alaska Native STEM education.

Open forums with Alaska College of Education executive dean finalists resume March 7

Two finalists for the position of Executive Dean for the Alaska College of Education will visit UAA to meet with stakeholders and any interested parties. Dr. Steve Atwater will be on campus Feb. 20, 2018, and Dr. Kathryn Hildebrand's visit is set for March 8, 2018.

UAA awarded $2.5 million in federal TRIO Upward Bound grants

The University of Alaska Anchorage has secured more than $2.5 million in federal funds through the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Upward Bound program to help Anchorage high school students become college ready. The grants, disbursed over a five-year period, will cover staffing and programming costs for UAA to serve 120 students in the Anchorage School District.
