Sarah Garner named director of Student Life and Leadership

Sarah Garner will begin her new role as director of Student Life and Leadership on Aug. 28, 2017. Please join us in warmly welcoming her to UAA and Alaska.

UAA Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan now available online

The Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan lays out seven major objectives. These follow from existing UAA data, 11 subcommittee reports, 22 focus groups, a Qualtrics campus climate survey, community campus site visits and the Diversity Summit. In order to ensure the Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan will be set in motion, we are planning the following actions for the upcoming academic year.

UA Board of Regents finalizes university’s FY18 capital budget for facility maintenance projects

 

Gunnar Knapp selected as 2017 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence recipient

The University of Alaska Foundation announced that long-time academic leaders Michelle Bartlett and Gunnar Knapp will receive the 2017 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence. Bartlett, director of Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and Gunnar Knapp, professor emeritus of economics at the University of Alaska Anchorage, will each receive $10,000 for their significant contributions to the University of Alaska.

FY18 capital budget includes $5 million for the university’s deferred maintenance needs

The Alaska Legislature passed an FY18 capital budget yesterday that includes $5 million of the $50 million requested by the UA Board of Regents for deferred maintenance and renewal/re-purposing needs. The regents will meet on Aug. 9 from 2-3 p.m. to approve the FY18 capital budget.

Tanya Ho named Seawolf Gymnastics head coach

Formerly a UAA opponent as a competitor and coach at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rivals UC Davis and Sacramento State, Tanya Ho becomes just the second head coach in 34 years of Seawolf gymnastics history.

Rosay appointed associate dean in College of Health, Myrstol interim Justice Center director

Dr. André Rosay, Justice Center director since 2007, has been appointed associate dean for academic and student affairs in the UAA College of Health. Dr. Brad Myrstol will serve as interim director of the Justice Center.
