Shared Services implementation update

I am pleased to share the new start date for UAA Shared Services is March 14, 2021. The original date in early January was postponed to allow for additional planning and preparation. While the launch date is a significant milestone in this transition, we do not anticipate any change or disruption in the unit’s provision of finance, travel, procurement and human resources services.

Job opening: Training Program Coordinator

The Training Program Coordinator position supports the training team for the Center for Human Development and The Alaska Training Cooperative (AKTC). The AKTC is a program within the UAA, College of Health, Center for Human Development. We are looking for a highly motivated individual for our multifaceted and exciting work.

Virtual NACA Live, Feb. 23–26

UAA Student Activities has purchased an Unlimited Pass to 2021 Virtual NACA Live which allows access for all UAA students, staff, and faculty to participate in the conference! Virtual NACA Live is a great opportunity for student leaders and professional staff across the institution to continue developing skills, competencies, and network with others in Higher Education from around the country.

High School Summer Workshop — Real Estate Management and Investment (REM+I)

The Real Estate Management & Investment (REM+I) Workshops are a FREE opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to learn about real estate investing, real estate management and career opportunities in this field. The workshops are hosted by the UAA Weidner Property Management and Real Estate Program and instructed by UAA professors. Students can apply for this opportunity at bit.ly/remi2021 before the May 1, 2021 deadline.

The Student Affairs End of Year Report for Academic Year 2020 is now available online. It chronicles the achievements and improvements you accomplished this past year, highlighting how Student Affairs responded to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Job opening: Director of Shared Services

Director of Shared Services is a senior management position that will report directly to the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services. Under long-range administrative direction, the individual in this position is responsible for overall leadership of a complex and mission-critical organization, including planning and goal setting, operational planning, personnel and financial management, establishment of the unit’s norms and culture, and inter-departmental relationships. The director has broad impact on the administrative reputation of the university and will strongly influence the establishment of administrative procedures and policies. The director will lead a management team yet to be defined.

Community of collaboration: UAA and UAF partner up on energy research

When research is portrayed in popular media, it’s often depicted as a lonely experience: the solitary scientist in their lab who single-handedly makes a big discovery. In the real world, research is an ongoing process that typically involves the labor, commitment and collaboration of entire communities. The Alaska Center for Energy and Power — a research center with offices at UAA, UAF and UAS — is one of those communities.

Celebrating Black History Month

History and heritage months provide an opportunity to learn about, appreciate and celebrate our diverse cultural identities. This includes celebrating our own identities, as well as learning about cultures that are different from our own. In making space to discuss the struggles and triumphs of those who came before us, we affirm the contributions that all peoples make toward the ongoing creation of not only American society, but the broader human experience.
