UAA to conduct Nov. 17 test of mass notification capability

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, around 11 a.m. AKST, UAA will conduct a test of its mass notification capability. This exercise will help us meet federal mandates to annually test our emergency plans. All employees and students should receive messages via text, voicemail on your phone(s) and email to your university email account, as well as your preferred email account if you have one designated.

Nov. 20: Urban and Rural in Alaska: Community Engagement Conference

The Urban and Rural in Alaska: Community Engagement Conference brings students, faculty, staff, and community members to broaden their awareness and involvement in campus-community partnerships. This year's event will feature a keynote address and the popular "rapid fire" faculty presentations and will explore ways in which the pandemic has shaped change in our communities. New this year, attendees will be invited to participate in our a Think Tank centered around “Tactical Urbanism” & reenvisioning Midtown Anchorage.

Nov. 19: What's Your Status? Dating During COVID

Join UAA's Peer Health Educators for a discussion on dating during a pandemic, what's safe and how to go about it. This virtual event will be held over Zoom on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. and includes interactive activities and discussions that allow active engagement for all participants!

Chancellor response to Gov. Dunleavy message on COVID-19

As many of you already know, Gov. Dunleavy triggered the emergency notification system and issued a declaration regarding COVID-19. For the moment, little changes at UAA as many of our current safety measures already align with the new declaration. These include online delivery for most classes, remote work for employees, as well as the use of masks and face coverings in university facilities and social distancing requirements for the limited in-person campus operations and face-to-face classes that remain.

Upstart Internship opportunity — help strengthen entrepreneurs in Alaska

In this program, interns are paired with local startup companies and entrepreneurial ecosystem builders to learn about entrepreneurship and what it means to be a founder. They also participate in regular professional development sessions with topics ranging from managing remote work to leveraging their strengths for success.

Join us at the last fall Core Competency Open Forum (Nov. 13, 9-11 a.m.)

In Spring 2020, the UAA community selected four institution-wide core student learning competencies. This year, UAA is highlighting the competency of Personal, Professional, and Community Responsibility. Because it is an institution-wide competency, we need to think about how this kind of student learning occurs in both traditional classroom settings and more broadly in student activity and service settings.

IT Services VDI upgrade notification

IT Services is performing maintenance and enhancements to the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) beginning Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. through midnight.
