The learning objectives at UAA's core

A key purpose of institutional accreditation is to answer a deceptively simple question: How do we know our students are learning what we believe they’re learning? This question is at the root of UAA’s culture of continuous growth and improvement — and, like so many complex questions, the answer requires input from our entire community.

First-year political science student Katie Scoggin recently won the top prize in UAA’s Leadership in Your Style competition. Her winning song, "It Starts with Me," urges individuals and communities to identify unfilled needs and then work together to meet them.

Using the Anchorage campus as their classroom, students in David Brock's Introduction to Surveying Laboratory learned how to use tools of the trade during a recent session. Although UAA's spring semester is mostly remote, limited in-person labs are offered for some fields in which hands-on learning is considered critical.

In the real world, research is an ongoing process that typically involves the labor, commitment and collaboration of entire communities. The Alaska Center for Energy and Power — a research center with offices at UAA, UAF and UAS — is one of those communities.
