As UAA's inaugural Marion Porter Chair, Dr. Helena Wisniewski's mission is clear: to enhance artificial intelligence and business analytics within the College of Business and Public Policy and across Alaska, fostering faculty and student success while addressing community needs through research, innovation, curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaborations.

UAA student Tayler Higgins is one of five young adults named to the 2024 Champions of Change cohort with the Center for Native American Youth. Tayler is passionate about centering and elevating Arctic Indigenous youth voices and the interaction of climate, social and economic justice work. She hopes to use her role as a champion to bring more opportunities back to her community.

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate granted the University of Alaska Anchorage $46 million over the next ten years to lead a consortium of U.S. academic institutions and partners for the newly established Arctic Domain Awareness Center (ADAC)-ARCTIC Center of Excellence (COE) for Homeland Security in the Arctic.

Students in fall's EMT 130 — Emergency Medical Technician I burnished their clinical and decision-making skills in a trio of rapid-fire trauma simulations, thanks to a first-time partnership between the Fire and Emergency Services program and the Interprofessional Health Sciences Simulation Center.

The Learning Commons' new location on the first floor of the UAA/APU Consortium Library serves as a hub of student engagement and learning at UAA with a community-centered design, creative study spaces and free support services available in-person and online.

On Jan. 11 and 12, UAA held the first annual Alaska Native Values in Modern Governance gathering. Hosted by the College of Business and Public Policy and College of Arts and Sciences, the two-day inaugural training event featured 28 sessions delivered by 21 speakers hailing from Alaska Native corporations, nonprofits and village and tribal councils.

On Wednesday, Dec. 13, the University of Alaska Anchorage honored individuals with the Meritorious Service Award and Honorary Degree during a special ceremony in advance of fall commencement.
