UAA scored among the top public schools in the country when it comes to serving black students, according to a recent report from the University of Southern California’s Race and Equity Center.

After a career in the U.S. Army, Cheryl Cox Williams joined her children in pursuing a degree at UAA. She soon discovered a passion for psychology, which she has put to work as president of UAA’s Black Student Union. She is working to build a more understanding future for Alaskans of all backgrounds.

UAA will celebrate Disability Awareness Week this October with a resource fair and panel discussion. Both events are free and open to the public.

Candidates in this year’s race for Alaska governor are participating in the first true debate-style format of this election. A panel of journalists from the Anchorage Daily News, moderated by Steve Johnson, director of UAA’s Seawolf Debate program, will question each candidate on their respective position about how the PFD should be managed relative to the State of Alaska’s current fiscal woes.

Visit the Fall Health Fair on Oct. 17, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. in RH 101 for giveaways, free coffee, interactive booths, and lots of health resources from both the campus and the community.

Join UAA Oct. 16 for conversations about alcohol and college life. Different topics include social norms, recovery and responsibility.
