Michael Mueller, a professor of education in UAA’s School of Education, is on a mission to help youths in Alaska become advocates of their environment through his Youth Birding Alaska project.

UAA professors LeeAnn Munk and Eric Klein are working with scientists across the UA system to examine the impact of climate change on two Alaska ecosystems: the boreal forest and the Gulf of Alaska.

This touring, one-act play tells the story of Nick, a young boy from a country called Homeland, and his family’s struggle to assimilate after immigrating to Alaska. Audiences feel Nick’s frustration through the use of clever technique: Nick and his family speak English while his classmates speak gibberish.

This past July in Utqiagvik, former associate professor of political science Dalee Sambo Dorough was unanimously voted to serve as international chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council, a position that represents 165,000 Inuit across Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Russia.

Salmon will soon be swimming on the ceiling at the UAA Planetarium and Visualization Theater, thanks to faculty and students from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and their work visualizing five years of data collected on the Kenai River Watershed.

UAA’s Aviation Technology Complex recently opened its doors to host Girls in Aviation Day — a collaborative event with Women in Aviation International’s Alaska Frontier Chapter and Professional Women Controllers. The worldwide event introduces young women to the many possibilities of careers in aviation.

Accounting Club at UAA is one of the most established and connected clubs on campus, and has helped launch the careers of hundreds of UAA accounting majors in Alaska and beyond.

Transitioning into college can be stressful and overwhelming, but there’s a new team of professionals on campus to ensure new students have the tools and resources needed to make the most out of their college career at UAA.

This summer, 11 students and two professors headed out from the end of Nabesna Road to circumnavigate a mountain, raft to Cordova and cap off their coursework in outdoor leadership at UAA.
