Notice of spring 2022 semester mandatory student fees

The UAA Anchorage campus consolidated mandatory student fee of $36.50 per credit remains unchanged for the spring 2022 semester. This fee is assessed starting when a student registers for one credit. The fee applies to all students, in all UAA Anchorage courses, regardless of the delivery mode or location. The UA Network Charge and the Facilities Fee are assessed as separate fees. Dr. Diane Hirshberg appointed ISER Interim Director

Dr. Diane Hirshberg, Professor of Education, has been appointed Interim Director of the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER). Dr. Hirshberg is an 18-year veteran of UAA and ISER, and has served in leadership roles such as President of UAA’s faculty senate and advisor to the Chancellor on Arctic Research and Education. She was the founding director of the Center for Alaska Education Policy Research and is currently Vice-President Academic at the University of the Arctic.

UAA parking garage rooftops to close after first real freeze

The UAA parking garage rooftops will be closed after the first real freeze more quickly and remain closed until the spring. The safety of our Seawolves is our first priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

New leadership hires within Administrative Services

It is my pleasure to share two exciting announcements within Administrative Services. After a competitive search process, Justin Atteberry has been hired as executive director of Shared Services. Additionally, Ben Shier has been named chief information officer (CIO) after serving in this role in an interim capacity since December 2019.

Alaska INBRE investigators receive seven administrative supplement awards

The NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) awards Administrative Supplement opportunities to develop collaborations between investigators, purchase equipment, address critical issues of women's health, and surveillance studies of SARS-CoV-2 viral strains. Since 2019 the Alaska INBRE program has received all seven submitted Administrative Supplements totaling $2,028,441.

ECB Parking Garage closed Oct. 10-25

UAA's Engineering & Computation Building Parking Garage

Due to emergency repairs on the fire hydrant at ECB, the parking garage hydrant supply will need to be shut off for a couple weeks while we work on the system. During this time, the entire areas will be closed with the drive-in access from Mallard Lane closed to the public. There will be barriers with signage at the bike path and skybridge as well. We will update here with any changes to the schedule.

COVID-19 update from the chancellor

One month into the academic year, I am happy to report that the university’s safety measures against COVID-19 appear to be working. Our collective continued efforts of social distancing, masking indoors, stringent cleaning and a reduced number of individuals on campus, along with our proactive approach to reporting cases, have allowed us to maintain face-to-face classes and work environments. Your continued diligence makes this possible.
