UAA's School of Social Work received a $1.2 million grant from the Department of Education for the School-Based Social Work Education and Network Development Program, also known as SSWEND. The three-and-a-half-year program will graduate 31 scholars to fill a high-demand need for school social workers in the Anchorage School District and schools throughout the state.

Out of 417 applicants, 36 Alaska artists have been named recipients of the 2023 Individual Artist Awards. An annual initiative managed by the Rasmuson Foundation, this year’s awardees include five UAA alumni — two receiving $25,000 fellowships and three winning $10,000 project awards.

Education alumna named 2024 Alaska Teacher of the Year and National Geographic fellowship recipient

Dimond High School science teacher Catherine Walker will compete for National Teacher of the Year next spring during a ceremony at the White House. Additionally, this October she will travel to New Zealand as part of the Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship made possible by Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic.
