Feedback request: UAA Administrative Management Structure Review

As you may recall, Chancellor Sandeen initiated the Administrative Management Structure Review in December 2020. The task was given to the Campus Planning Advisory Board (CPAB). The committee was charged to conduct a review of administrative management positions at UAA, alongside similar efforts at UAF, UAS and the system office.

Parking lot closures scheduled for mid-May

In mid-may, the Central Parking Garage will be closed Sunday evening (May 16, 2021) and remain closed through Wednesday (May 19, 2021). Also, on Tuesday (May 18, 2021), the Spine portion connected to the East Parking Lot garage and East Campus Central as well as Alumni Drive between UAA Drive and the Library parking lot entrance will be closed.

Vice Provost & COH Dean Jeff Jessee announces retirement

"It is with mixed emotions that I announce my intention to retire as vice provost of UA health programs and dean of the UAA College of Health on July 31 of this year," wrote Jeff Jessee in a message to the UAA community. "Serving the University of Alaska for the past four years has been an enormous honor, and stepping away from this role will be bittersweet. I feel it is the right time, though, as I look forward to the new opportunities that retirement will bring."

UAA student essay selected as cover article for upcoming ‘Film Matters’ magazine

Samantha Van Zandt, a UAA student who took WRTG 111 last summer, submitted her essay on Quentin Tarantino's films Kill Bill Vol. I & II to the undergraduate film journal Film Matters. Not only did the journal agree to publish, but she'll also be the featured article, with the cover dedicated to her piece.

Butrovich Data Center generator electrical maintenance work scheduled for May

On Saturday, May 15, and Saturday, May 22, UAF Facilities Services will be conducting a planned maintenance power shutdown to the entire Butrovich Building to prepare electrical systems for the integration of a new backup generator for the Butrovich Data Center (BDC). The electrical system must be completely powered down to ensure safety for the technicians doing the work.

Cheryl Siemers named next KPC director

Dr. Cheryl Siemers will serve as the new director of Kenai Peninsula College (KPC). Siemers currently serves as assistant director of academic affairs at KPC. She formerly served as director of advancement and academic dean at neighboring institution Alaska Christian College.

UAA’s Faculty Development and Instructional Support unit (a merger of CAFE, CCEL and AI&e) is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2020-2021 Faculty Development Awards. Notice: UAA IT Services new phone deployment

UAA IT Services is in the process of deploying new phones for the UAA main campus. The purpose of this effort is to replace old desk phones that are beyond useful life. Phone distribution begins the week of April 12, 2021, with new phone replacement starting on the East side of campus, moving to the West side.
