Celebrating Black History Month

History and heritage months provide an opportunity to learn about, appreciate and celebrate our diverse cultural identities. This includes celebrating our own identities, as well as learning about cultures that are different from our own. In making space to discuss the struggles and triumphs of those who came before us, we affirm the contributions that all peoples make toward the ongoing creation of not only American society, but the broader human experience.

With so many employees working from home at this time, the logistics of distributing a printed calendar proved overwhelming so we required a different approach this year! GSS is providing a complimentary calendar but in a digital format. Multiple options have been created, including a printable version. The calendar is now available online from the GSS homepage at uaa.alaska.edu/gss.

Even better, the experience is gamified so students can earn gift cards and scholarships as rewards for engaging with the platform and helping their peers. If you would like to learn more about CircleIn, please contact Joe Bruner at jcbruner@alaska.edu.

UA BOR reinstates Alpine skiing

UAA Ski Team

The University of Alaska Board of Regents voted to reinstate the Alpine ski team at the University of Alaska Anchorage Friday. The board's action was in response to its September decision to consider reinstatement of the program if the team could successfully reach established fundraising goals. That effort, led by head coach Sparky Anderson, resulted in local, regional and national supporters exceeding the goal of $628,000, equal to two years of operating expenses.
