Federal rule changes to Title IX

Earlier today you received a communication from Acting President Rizk announcing the University of Alaska Board of Regents (BOR) approved changes to BOR policy based on new federal Title IX guidelines.

I would like to take this time to reiterate these updates and reaffirm my commitment to work with my leadership team as well as local government leaders to make informed decisions and develop policies that make the most sense for UAA.

Chancellor update on fall ’20 Seawolf Athletics

The GNAC CEO Board has voted to suspend all fall athletic competition until at least Nov. 30 due to the ongoing and increasing risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This is not a conclusion any of us would choose if not confronted with such a real threat to the collective health of our student-athletes, coaches and staff, fans and supporters.

Raymond Weber appointed interim dean of UAA Community & Technical College

Following an internal search process, Dr. Raymond Weber, Aviation Technology faculty member, has agreed to step into the role of interim dean for UAA Community & Technical College. Ray will serve for two years and we will conduct a national search for the permanent dean in academic year 2021-2022.

Update on UAA Bookstore transformation

After analyzing industry best practices and weighing the options against our fiscal reality, the Chancellor’s Cabinet made the difficult decision to outsource the handling of textbooks and course materials to a third-party vendor beginning in the fall 2020 term.
