Tammie Willis is the Associate Director of Residence Life for the KPC campus residence halls. She has incredible perseverance and determination, never giving up on even the hardest situation. Her resolve lends to her ability to relate to any student from any background. She is very encouraging, particularly of personal growth.

Spring withdrawal deadline extended to April 10

The withdrawal deadline has been extended to April 10th in response to COVID-19. Students are encouraged to try the new delivery methods of their courses before choosing to withdraw. If they are an international student, a student athlete, and/or are receiving financial aid or military tuition assistance/VA educational benefits, it is important that students be aware that they may be negatively impacted by withdrawing. Students should reach out to their academic advisor and/or the appropriate office to discuss impacts prior to withdrawing.

Changes to Enrollment Services Call Center

Despite a great deal of effort and collaboration with IT, we have been unable to stand up the Enrollment Services Call Center (786-1480) remotely. Individual employees still have access to their individual work numbers via jabber; otherwise, for the fastest response, students, staff and faculty are encouraged to email.

Access to UAA campus buildings currently restricted

As part of UAA’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, access to UAA campus buildings is currently restricted. In order to preserve the health and safety of our campus community, all buildings are locked. Students and employees who need to be present on campus may access buildings using keys or WolfCards.

Mail route needs are being evaluated based on changing availability of UAA departmental staff and how to best serve the UAA community and also limit interaction. The Department of Homeland Security advises everyone to exercise caution in handling any email with a COVID-19-related subject line, attachment, or hyperlink, and be wary of social media pleas, texts, or calls related to COVID-19. Instances of these scams are already being reported across the UA system.

Chancellor decisions posted for expedited program and administrative reviews

On March 23, Chancellor Sandeen announced decisions on both administrative and program reductions for FY20-21. The total reduction assigned to UAA beginning July 1, 2020 is $11.8 million. Despite much needed attention directed at the COVID-19 outbreak, the budget cut based on the compact remains a reality for the University of Alaska, and we have been asked to proceed as planned.

What the "Hunker Down" order means for UAA

On March 20, Mayor Berkowitz announced a “Hunker Down” order will be in place beginning 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 through Tuesday, March 31 at 11:59 p.m. Below is guidance on what this order means for UAA's Anchorage campus. Community campus directors will continue to make facility closure and remote-work decisions for their campus and local communities.

Alternate Course Delivery begins March 23

These are truly unprecedented times. In an effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, UAA will transition courses to alternate delivery methods beginning Monday, March 23. This means nearly every professor and student across the state will be leveraging online learning tools. Staff will be working remotely as well.
