Anchorages Diverse Voices Psychological Study, Anchorages Refugees

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Psychology major Elizabeth Granville's proposal regarding Anchorages Refugees was approved by the Anchorage Diverse Voices Project. Professor Robert Boeckmann is her project mentor, Psychology PhD graduate student Jaymes Gonzales will provide advisory oversight. In 2006, Alaska had over 120 refugees, many of whom were sent by the United Nations. They fled their countries for reasons of race, nationality, social class, religion or political opinion. Ms. Granville's study will investigate the factors that, from their own perspective, proved most successful in transitioning successfully and how UAA might better respond to their needs. The Diverse Voices Project was funded by the Chancellor's Strategic Opportunity Fund. Contact Phyllis Fast afpaf@uaa.alaska.edu.
