A warning from UPD

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Your University Police Department has been notified of a few thefts of laptop notebook computers from the campus this semester. Too often these computers are left in unlocked areas to which unsupervised people have access. UPD asks that you create a record of serial numbers and model numbers of computers used in your work area, apartment or home.
If a laptop is kept in a lockable storage closet or filing cabinet when not in use, lock it up. Please do not leave expensive items in plain view in unattended vehicles. Back up your data regularly on a disk or other portable memory device. Consider marking the computer, so that when combined with its serial number, a recovered computer can be returned to you.
