Grant Baker nominated for 2006 Engineer of the Year

Grant C. Baker, P.E., Ph.D., is a nominee for the National Society of Professional Engineers 2006 Engineer of the Year.  The award will be announced during National Engineers Week (Feb. 18-24) on Feb. 24 at the annual banquet at the Millennium Alaska Hotel.   

Baker is a professor in UAA's School of Engineering and is chair of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) program, where students can specialize in computer systems, electrical or mechanical engineering.  Started in 2005, the program has exceeded expectations with more than 240 students currently enrolled.  

For his many successful contributions to UAA's School of Engineering, Dr. Baker was awarded the 2005 Chancellor's Award for Excellence for Outstanding Contribution to Students.  In addition, the Alaska section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) recently announced Baker the Alaska ASME 2006 Engineer of the Year.
