Spring 2007: UAA announces grand opening of on campus Starbucks

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The University of Alaska Anchorage will open its on campus Starbucks Coffee on Monday, Feb. 19 at 8 a.m. in the UAA/APU Consortium Library. A ribbon-cutting ceremony by Chancellor Elaine Maimon will kick-off the celebration. Free coffee samples and freshly baked pastries will be available throughout the day. The opening celebration will also feature a series of raffles for a variety of great prizes.

Operated by Seawolf Dining Services, the new full-service Starbucks Coffee has created 13 new jobs, of which UAA students fill nearly half. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store will be closed during student holidays.

"Our goal was to transform the previous location into a more upscale and cozy atmosphere for enjoying coffee and a bite to eat," said Stephen Wadsworth, UAA's Food Service Director. "This is another example of an improvement from Seawolf Dining in response to our students and faculty. We want to create an experience that will bring the campus community together."
