University Police Department arrests computer theft suspect

On Friday, March 2, members of the University Police Department (UPD) arrested Joshua D. Fletcher, 19, of Anchorage for allegedly stealing a computer and power cord from employee offices at the university. He was later lodged at the Anchorage Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 bail.

UPD determined through investigation that Fletcher had allegedly taken a notebook computer from a staff office in the Professional Studies Building in mid-February, and on a later date took a power cord for a notebook computer from the Administration Building. Fletcher had access to UAA work areas late at night as a contract janitor employed by American Building Maintenance. Detective Mike Beckner obtained a search warrant on Friday for Fletcher's residence and vehicle and was able to seize both the computer and power cord as evidence. The suspect was arrested without incident for Theft 2, a felony, and Theft 3.
