Free Meningitis Vaccination

On April 10 meningitis vaccinations will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. in the UAA Commons. The vaccine can prevent four times of meningococcal disease, known as meningitis. Young adults and college aged or college bound students can especially benefit. This vaccination is worth $70 but is offered free to all UAA and Anchorage community members. The vaccination is available to everyone aged between 11 and 55.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, those most at risk to develop meningococcal disease include college students living in dormitory style housing, military recruits and those traveling to regions where the disease is more common. This disease can be a serious illness, caused by bacteria, and is a leading cause of bacterial meningitis.
