The UAA Vigil for Virginia Tech

by Kathleen McCoy  |

University of Alaska Anchorage community members grieve for our colleagues, all the students, their families and friends at Virginia Tech after the tragic events of April 16. A dedicated group of UAA students, staff, faculty, and campus ministry have organized a program of reflection to occur on Thursday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the UAA Student Union North Cafeteria. All UAA students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Anchorage community members are invited to the vigil. Parking will be complementary in the UAA Bookstore lot during the event.

The UAA Vigil for Virginia Tech will be a time of reflection and support for our community. Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Linda Lazzell will address the audience. We will acknowledge the victims of Monday's tragedy and offer an opportunity for participants to send their condolences to Virginia Tech through writing cards and signing a banner of condolence to be sent to the Virginia Tech campus. Campus resources will be available for those needing referrals. Please join us for this memorial program.

A future forum is being planned to provide community members with more information about UAA's emergency response plan and resources. Details will be announced shortly. For more information, contact the UAA Dean of Students Office at 786-1214.
