The University of Alaska Anchorage is pleased to announce the appointment of Rocky Capozzi to the position of Director and Term Associate Professor of Aviation Technology in the Aviation Technology Division of the Community and Technical College (CTC).

Rocky Capozzi was selected from a highly qualified pool of applicants resulting from a national recruitment.  His qualifications include a B.S. in Engineering Mechanics from the United States Air Force Academy (1974) and an M.S. in Engineering Mechanics from Columbia University as a Guggenheim Fellow (1975).  Rocky has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility during his 26 year career in the United States Air Force (USAF), prior to assuming his current position as interim director of the UAA Aviation Technology Division (2006-present).

During his short time at UAA, Mr. Capozzi has demonstrated an impressive commitment to faculty, staff and students, and has worked on building community partnerships and gaining support for UAA's aviation programs.  Additionally, his wealth of aviation experience from his career in the USAF is of great value to the operations of the division.

The Aviation Technology division has experienced significant enrollment growth in many areas, most notably air traffic control and professional piloting.  A reconstituted Industry Advisory Council is helping guide the division in creating a new forward-looking vision, a strategic plan for the future and an action plan for managing present and near-term growth.  Demands from students for academic opportunities, and from industry for training and applied research, call for exceptional academic leadership. Mr. Capozzi's role as the director of CTC's Aviation Technology division is a critical position that is important to UAA, the division, the college, and to the industry and communities we serve.
