Summer 2007: Post No Bills

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Post No Bills, Music Made Visual, is an exhibit of concert posters from local and national music scenes featuring the Northwest sounds of Sub Pop Records, House of Blues Sasquatch Music Festival and a variety of Seattle Venues. The exhibit, in the UAA Student Union Gallery, is open to the public from Noon to 5 p.m. The hand screen-printed posters featured are designed and printed by Art Institute of Seattle graduate and Bethel born Craig Updegrove. Craig is an award-winning artist, placing second in the American Poster Institute Flatstock poster competition. He was one of 30 designers nationwide selected by the House of Blues to design posters for the Sasquatch Music Festival. Shortly after graduating, Craig began interning in the art department of Sub Pop Records, where he designed posters for some of the Northwest's prominent indie bands.

Craig says, "The outside work is great, but I would much rather do posters for the arts in Anchorage." His work includes pieces for Out North, Anchorage Community Theatre, Theatre on the Rocks and a few local bands. He has had offers to do graphic design for major companies, but continues here in Alaska in hops of working with groups and organizations that create community through the art of music, theatre and film.
