Managing restricted funds at any level

Workshops will provide a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of all stake holders, from proposal development through award negotiations, financial accountability, sub-recipient monitoring and closeout. Knowing what each party does and why is essential to ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

Sept. 12 will be an all day session (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and will give research administrators an overview of federal agencies' regulations, how to apply them, and what an individual's responsibility for appropriate oversight and fund management should be.

Sept. 13 will be a half-day information session (9 a.m. to Noon) to give PIs, RAs, deans and directors helpful information on interpreting their roles and responsibilities, according to the regulations.

Three experienced research administrators use a variety of entertaining and interesting teaching methods, including case studies, recent compliance headlines and real life experiences to help demonstrate how important the timely and effective flow of information between parties is to bridging the gap between restricted fund administrators. Presenters will be:

  1. Denise J. Clark, Asst. Vice President, Office of Research Administration and Advancement, University of Maryland, College Park
  2. Ann M. Holmes, Director of Administration, Center for Advanced Study of Language, University of Maryland, College Park
  3. Timothy E. Reuter, Exec. Director, Cost Compliance, Boston University

For more information and to register, please e-mail anmlb@uaa.alaska.edu. A continental breakfast will be provided each day at 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be provided on Sept. 12. Although sessions are targeted to research administrators on Sept. 12 and PIs, RAs, deans and directors on Sept. 13, everyone is welcome to attend both sessions.
