Studies of global warming featured in Alaska Newspapers article

Experimental studies of global warming by UAA professor Dr. Jeff Welker are featured in a recent article published by Alaska Newspapers, Inc. This summer, the National Science Foundation (NSF) sent reporter Dustin Solberg to shed light on the activities taking place at the hub of global warming research during the 2007-2008 International Polar Year (IPY): their research station on the Greenland ice sheet. Last year Welker received a grant from the NSF for his Environment and Natural Resources Institute (ENRI) research project associated with the IPY. The project is designed to quantify how increases in shrubs have altered the abiotic environment, causing a fundamental change in the functional attributes of these systems in arctic Alaska.
