Update on UAA's Vista adoption

With Microsoft's release of its new Vista operating system this year, a group of technology support staff from across the university was asked to assess the impact of implementing both Vista and Office 2007 at UAA. UAA's Information Technology Group is a community of interested technical support staff who support not only UAA's enterprise technology but also departments and offices at our campuses. The group was asked to evaluate both Vista and Office 2007 in Feb. and make recommendations.
The Information Technology Group recommended the immediate release of Office 2007 for use at UAA but to hold on releasing Vista. CIO Rich Whitney accepted these recommendations and authorized immediate release of Office 2007 and approved a re-evalutaiton of Vista in Spring 2008.

There has been an increase in requests for Vista license keys under the terms of UAA's Microsoft Campus Agreement by certain organizations on campus since the beginning of the semester. The IT Call Center has also seen an increase in support calls concerning Vista and key components including Internet Explorer 7. White the IT Call Center will provide best effort support to individual callers concerning Vista, full support will not be guaranteed until a formal release is approved. Vista license keys will not be given to requesting staff until formal Vista adoption is determined in spring. For more information call (907) 786.4754.
