Clarinetist Mark Wolbers to perform October 14

 Alaska's pied piper of the clarinet, UAA clarinet professor Mark Wolbers will present a concert of solo clarinet works on Sunday, October 14 at 4 p.m. in the UAA Fine Arts Building Recital Hall. The concert will feature selections from various programs Wolbers has performed over the years at his popular noon concerts for the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra Summer Festival. Among the works featured in this program are clarinet etudes, violin etudes, quartertone and multi-phonic studies, cornet solos, and clarinet solos by Roberto Sierra, Shih-Hui Chen and Miklos Rozsa.

Professor Wolbers holds a doctorate in clarinet performance from the University of Michigan. Now in his 16th year at UAA, he serves as conductor of the University Wind Ensemble and division head for wind and percussion studies. His work in the community includes an annual 6th grade beginning clarinet class and performances in the schools by the UAA Clarinet Ensemble. He has performed in Alaska with the Sitka Music Festival, Cross Sound, DeVere and Southwest String Quartets, and is a founding member of the Alaska Pro Musica trio.
