Complex Systems lectures

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Dr. Jim Pantaleone, Professor of Physics at UAA, will start the Complex Systems lecture series with a presentation on Oct. 12 entitled Oscillations in a Chemical Garden. The seminar will be held at Noon in LIBRARY 307.

Chemical gardens are a common chemical toy. Metal salts placed in a silicate solution grow tree-like structures. Pantaleone's talk will focus on one particular case where the growing structure oscillates and the mechanism behind the movement is analyzed. As always these events are free and open to the public.

Next week, Dr. Kim Peterson, co-founder of the UAA Complex Systems Group, will present UAA as a Complex System at Noon in LIBRARY 307.
