Looking in All the Wrong Places

It was considered common knowledge that no or few archaeological sites would be found away from the shoreline in the Aleutian archipelago. Yet, over the years, several archaeologists had reported the occasional, anomalous site up streams, on hillsides or in overlook areas. No archaeological survey had been conducted with the intention of looking for up-shore sites until the survey in 2007 - with surprising results. Diane Hanson describes the 2007 survey on southwestern Adak Island and considers the purposes for the upland sites on Oct. 19 at Noon in BMH 104. Sponsored by the Anthropology Club.
