Police auxiliary

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The University Police Department Office of Emergency Preparedness will be hosting an informal meeting on Oct. 26 to discuss the formation of a police auxiliary team. The group will likely take the form of a Community Emergency Response Team and will receive training in directing crowds and traffic, mild fire suppression, search and rescue and first aid. Employee members would serve as volunteers on call by pager while they are at work in case of emergency or disaster. Other dynamics of the team will be formulated by the group over time. Periodic training sessions, excise and drills will be held to keep the group cohesive and motivated by using their response skills. If interested save the date, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. the location will be announced later. Contact Lt. Swartz at (907) 786.1149 if you wish to be placed on the mailing list.
