The University of Alaska's Center for Economic Development (UACED) will conduct its first annual Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC) in Anchorage from Oct. 14 to 18, at the Anchorage Residence Inn by Marriot. The course introduces strategies, resources and example projects relating to economic development to professionals from all sectors of the economy, public and private.

The BEDC is a nationally recognized course that will feature speakers from Alaska and the Lower 48 who specialize in economic development and who are familiar with the challenges of fostering economic growth, both on and off the road system.

"We are very excited about offering an economic development course of this caliber in Alaska," said Christi Bell, director of UACED.  "Alaska is unique when it comes to economic development, yet at the same time many lessons can be learned from Lower 48 economic development professionals.  This course has been specifically designed to encourage greater collaboration between economic development groups and to learn from experts both from and outside Alaska."

The BEDC is an accredited course of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The course is designed both for those new to economic development and those with many years of experience. The BEDC is a required course in order to obtain a Certified Economic Developer (CED) professional designation.
