by Kathleen McCoy  |

UAA is pleased to present an evening of four short plays based on the themes of the International Polar Year (IPY) on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. in UAA's Fine Arts Building, room 150. Modeled after the Alaska Overnighters, these plays will be written, directed and produced in only 24 hours! Participants in this unique event are current UAA students and staff, as well as UAA alumni. The University of Alaska is taking an active role in celebrating the 2007-2009 IPY by promoting research, education, arts and outreach activities to ensure that the benefits of IPY extend to everyone in Alaska.

The IPY is a scientific program that focuses on the Arctic and the Antarctic and is organized through the International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization. 2007 marks the beginning of the fourth IPY. The first occurred in 1882, followed by 1932 and 1957. For additional information on IPY, visit http://greenandgold.uaa.alaska.edu/ipy/. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional information, please call 786-1196.
