The UAA Anthropology Department and Anthropology Club Present "Deikinoow: Tlingit Cultural Heritage in the Hazy Islands" by Dr. Steve J. Langdon, Professor of Anthropology at UAA on Friday, December 7 at 4:00 p.m. in Beatrice McDonald Hall, room 104. The colloquium will include the premier showing of a documentary of the June 2007 Kake Tlingit seagull egg collection in the Hazy Islands. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Deikinoow ("Far out fort") has an important place in the cultural heritage of the Keex and Hinyaa Tlingit of southern southeast Alaska. This presentation will discuss ongoing research and cultural documentation of the various mechanisms and practices through which Tlingit construct their relation with Deikinoow. The research will assist policy initiatives such as applying for designation of Deikinoow as federal traditional cultural property of the Keex and Hinyaa Tlingit.
