Marian Mitchell now assistant dean of Honors College

Marian MitchellThe University Honors College has announced that Marian Mitchell has been promoted to assistant dean of the College. In her new role, Marian's expanded portfolio includes advising, assessment and curricular affairs, and finance and budget, according to Ronald Spatz, dean of the University Honors College.

A member of the University Honors administrative team since 2001, first as its assistant director, then associate director, Marian received a Chancellor's Award for Excellence for Outstanding Contributions to Students, as well as the University of Alaska President's "Make Students Count" award for outstanding service to students in 2004. Marian has been employed at UAA since 1992 in various administrative capacities.

Marian earned an MA in English from the University of Oregon where she studied women's literature and taught freshman composition. She also has a Master of Business Administration from UAA. Marian is an accomplished cellist and is a member of a chamber music group, the Chameleon Ensemble.
